angry

A2 having a strong feeling against someone who has behaved badly, making you want to shout at them or hurt them:

He’s really angry at/with me for upsetting Sophie.
I don’t understand what he’s angry about.
[ + that ] They feel angry that their complaints were ignored.
got really angry with her.
It made me really angry.

furious

B2 extremely angry:

I was late and he was furious with me.
He’s furious about/at the way he’s been treated.
I was expecting him to be furious but he was very restrained.
He was so furious about the accusations in the letter that he threatened to sue.

annoyed

B1 angry:

I was so annoyed with him for turning up late.
He was annoyed at the way she tried to take over the whole meeting.
My parents were rather annoyed (that) I hadn’t told them about the accident.
She was annoyed to discover that her husband had taken her car keys.

upset

A2 [ after verb ] worried, unhappy, or angry:

Don’t get upset about the dress – there’s only a little stain on it.
[ + to infinitive ] She was very upset to hear that the party had been cancelled.
[ + that ] He was very upset that you didn’t reply to his emails.

disappointed

B1 unhappy because someone or something was not as good as you hoped or expected, or because something did not happen:

We were deeply disappointed at/about the result.
His parents were bitterly disappointed in/with him.
[ + (that) ] She was disappointed (that) they hadn’t phoned.
[ + to infinitive ] He was disappointed to find they’d already left.
If you’re expecting Dad to let you borrow his car, you’re going to be sorely disappointed.

dejected

unhappy, disappointed, or without hope:

She looked a bit dejected when they told her she didn’t get the job.

disgruntled

unhappy, annoyed, and disappointed about something:

The players were disgruntled with the umpire.

unsatisfied

feeling that something is not enough or not good enough:

After dinner he still felt unsatisfied.

jealous

B1 upset and angry because someone that you love seems interested in another person:

Anna says she feels jealous every time another woman looks at her boyfriend.

B2 unhappy and angry because someone has something that you want:

He had always been very jealous of his brother’s good looks.

be green with envy

C2 to be very unhappy because someone has something that you want:

Chad is heading off to Spain for the week, and I’m green with envy.

envious

wishing you had what another person has:

I’m very envious of your new coat – it’s beautiful.
